The Fifth Assignment

Stuck In My Tooth (2011), Kimber Bowman
Composition
For this image, I chose to do a close up shot, placing emphasis on the the mouth itself. The lighting used here is simple florescence. The background is blurred just enough to give the image context.

Concept/Motivation
The concept of this image is the annoying feeling of having a food stuck in your tooth, only exaggerated. The bright contrasted colors give the image playful feel.

Method
I stuffed my mouth with multi-colored toothpicks and took the picture of myself. I added contrast by selecting elements of the image and changing their hues and saturation.

Context
This image reminds me of modern-day psychaldellic pics. The colors are bright and slightly trippy, reminiscent of the colors of the 60's.

Wild Thang (2011), Kimber Bowman

Wild Thang II (2011), Kimber Bowman

Compostion
Both girls are off center, to give a wider view of the body while still showing the face. This placement also places greater emphasis on the body. A diffused floor lamp and desk lamp add a mix of soft lighting to the image.

Concept/Motivation
The concept of this image is to show visually evoke the wild side of woman. The animal print skin keeps them wild, while the pink background adds femininity. I strive to show the duality of women, and I hope I achieved that here.

Method
I took pictures of the girls with their backs to the camera. Two types of diffused lighting were used to create a golden glow. The animal print was taken from a royalty free site. I dropped the opacity and superimposed the print.

Context
These images remind me of today's fashions. Animal prints are all the rage this season and that is primarily where the idea came from. A pair of Leopard Jessica Simpson pumps.

Close Enough To Touch (2011), Kimber Bowman

Composition
The lighting in this image comes from spot lighting and a few colored light adding emphasis to the performer and the fans. The tilt of the camera gives an uneasy vibe, but the pose of the subject adds strength.

Concept/Motivation
The motivation behind this image was to show the action present at a concert. I also wanted to emphasize the closeness of the fans to the performer. I thought about how much fans want to be close to their favorite performers, but even if they're in the front row, they are still far away.

Method
This is a composite of two photographs. The hands were cut out from a crowd shot and placed along the side to represent fans reaching out to the entertainer.

Context
Alex Reside, an up-and-coming music photographer take a lot of images like this. His images normally focus on performer/crowd interaction.

Cherry Blossoms in February (2011), Kimber Bowman

Cherry Blossoms in February II (2011), Kimber Bowman

 Composition
This image uses natural lighting to illuminate the flowers. The focus is toward the middle of the image and gives the viewer a focal point in the frame.

Concept/Motivation
The idea came from some fabric in the trees. I tried to do the same image using my own fabric, a bush and twist ties. I like the idea of flowers in winter.

Method
I tied pieces of an old scarf together and tied them to some branches. I took the picture wile sitting on the ground and looking up into the sky.

Context
This image reminds me of typical flower images, but the fact that the flowers aren't real, changes things up.
